This is not failure. It's a threshold, and a deeper part of him is ready to be initiated into the next chapter of his life.

The retreat unfolds as a carefully guided journey through the four masculine archetypes. Each day builds on the last, guiding men from emotional opening and personal reflection toward clarity, leadership and integration. Alongside structured practices, there is also time for rest, nature and personal reflection.
You arrive, land, and begin to leave the old world behind. Through circle, intention, breath and brotherhood, the retreat container begins to form. This is the first threshold, where the body starts to soften, the mind begins to quiet, and each man chooses to step into the deeper work, together.
Through breath, movement, sound, emotional release and carefully held relational practice, the armour around the heart begins to soften. Men reconnect with what has been numbed, hidden or held back. This is a day of feeling, tenderness and truth, where the body remembers it is safe to open again.
The fire begins to rise. Through embodied practice, movement, voice and initiation processes, men meet their anger, power and direction in a clean way. This is where boundaries are felt in the body, truth becomes action, and the Warrior is brought back into service.
At the centre of the retreat, the men enter a traditional Balinese water purification ceremony. This becomes the ritual turning point of the journey — a moment to release the old identity, cleanse the body and nervous system, and mark the transition into who each man is choosing to become.
After the release, the journey moves inward. Through meditation, nature immersion, silence and guided inquiry, men begin to see beneath the noise of the mind. This is a day of intuition, pattern recognition and inner clarity, where insight is not just thought about, but felt through the body.
The King brings the journey into direction, responsibility and embodied leadership. Through council, vision work and grounded practice, men name the values, standards and purpose they choose to live by. This is where joy and blessing are embraced, so insight becomes commitment, and the man begins to claim the throne of his own life.
The final day gathers the journey into the body. Through reflection, closing circle and integration practices, the men honour what has shifted and anchor what they are carrying home. This is not simply the end of the retreat — it is the beginning of a new way of walking through life.

Part of a Larger Journey
Many men arrive at The Return seeking greater purpose, deeper brotherhood and a more embodied experience of mature masculinity.
Through the archetypal journey of the Lover, Warrior, Magician and King, participants explore questions of identity, leadership, responsibility and personal truth.
Along the way, many also encounter deeper layers of shame, emotional conditioning and the influences of the mother and father wound.
For men who wish to explore these foundations more directly, Samyama also offers The Boy, The Wound, The Man, a dedicated three-day initiation focused on the experiences that often shape masculine identity from an early age.
Both retreats touch many of the same themes from different perspectives. Neither is a prerequisite for the other. They simply offer different entry points into the same deeper exploration of self.
There is no correct place to begin.

The Retreat Home
The retreat is held at Pondok Kutuh Guest House, a quiet family-run place tucked into the rice fields on the edge of Ubud. Traditional Balinese architecture, a long garden pool and shaded courtyards give the space its unhurried feeling.
Rooms are simple and comfortable, opening onto gardens or private balconies. All nine nights of accommodation and every meal throughout the retreat are included.
