Owls, Evolution & Inspiration: A Special Day at Future Human School

On Friday 17th April 2026, the Future Human School, now based at the Samyama Self Healing Centre, welcomed some truly extraordinary visitors.
The Owl Tower Bali arrived at the new Samyama shala with a collection of their magnificent owls, offering students a rare opportunity to get up close with these remarkable birds.
The session was more than just a visual experience. Students were able to learn about the different species, their behaviours, and the unique evolutionary traits that make owls such effective hunters. Watching them in motion, observing their silent flight, and understanding their sensory capabilities brought classroom learning vividly to life.
One of the highlights of the day was the chance for students to wear a traditional leather glove and have the owls perch gently on their hands. It was an experience that combined excitement with a real sense of connection to the natural world.
Nature as a source of innovation
This visit tied directly into the students' current area of study: how nature inspires innovation. Through the lens of biomimicry, the children have been exploring how millions of years of evolution have shaped highly efficient, intelligent designs, the kind that humans are now studying to inform new technologies.
Owls are a perfect example. Their near-silent flight, specialised feather structure, and exceptional night vision are not just fascinating; they are the kind of natural solutions that engineers and scientists look to when developing quieter aircraft, improved sensors, and adaptive systems.
A different kind of learning
Beyond the science, there was something deeper at play.
Moments like this, standing quietly with an owl on your hand, feeling its presence, its stillness, its awareness, create a different kind of learning. One that isn't just intellectual, but experiential.
And of course, there's no denying the simple truth: they are incredibly beautiful creatures.
