Private Retreat
Private Shadow Work Retreat
Three Days to Explore What Lies Beneath
Three full retreat days · Four nights · Fully private
What Lies Beneath
There are parts of ourselves we know well. And there are others we learn to hide, suppress or leave unexplored.
Sometimes those hidden parts appear through recurring relationship patterns, emotional reactions, fear, shame, self-doubt or behaviours we struggle to understand. Sometimes there is no obvious problem at all, simply a growing sense that something deeper is asking for our attention.
A Private Shadow Work Retreat at Samyama creates the time, space and support to explore those less visible parts of yourself with curiosity rather than judgement.
The retreat is built around the people who are actually here.
This is not a fixed group programme. The retreat can be experienced alone, as a couple, with a sibling, family member, close friend, or as a closely connected private group of up to four people.
For an individual, this creates an unusually private environment in which the entire retreat can develop around your own experience.
For couples, families or close friends, the work can also explore the patterns that exist between you: the roles we adopt, the things left unsaid, the ways we trigger one another and the family or relationship dynamics that may have developed over many years.
Not every session needs to be shared. The retreat can move between individual and collective work according to what is most appropriate. There is no group of strangers and no programme you have to keep pace with.

Arrival
Arrive Before the Work Begins
Your first evening is intentionally spacious. After travelling to Samyama, there is no expectation that you immediately begin deep personal work.
You have time to arrive, settle into your accommodation, eat, rest and allow some of the momentum of everyday life to begin falling away.
The following morning, the three-day retreat journey begins. After the final day's work and Water Ceremony, you remain at Samyama for one further night before departing the following morning.
This creates a four-night container around three complete days of retreat work.

Morning
Coming Into the Body
Each retreat day begins with a 90-minute yoga or embodied practice.
Shadow does not exist only in our thoughts. Our bodies can hold tension, protection, emotion and habitual responses long before the conscious mind has found words for them.
The morning practice helps quiet some of the mental noise and encourages awareness of what is actually happening in the body.
There is no requirement for previous yoga experience and no expectation of physical performance. The intention is simply to become more present before moving towards deeper exploration.

Midday
Private Shadow Work
At the centre of each day are two hours of facilitated Shadow Work, divided into two focused sessions with space between them.
Shadow Work explores aspects of ourselves that have become hidden, rejected, protected or difficult to acknowledge.
Depending on what is present, the work might explore
- Emotional triggers and recurring patterns
- Fear and shame
- Inner child experiences
- Relationships and family dynamics
- Self-worth and identity
- Anger, grief or vulnerability
- Limiting beliefs
- The roles we learned to play
- Life transitions
- Parts of ourselves we have struggled to accept

Working together
What Happens Between Us
For two or more closely connected participants, another dimension becomes possible. We may begin to notice not only our own patterns, but what happens between us.
A brother and sister may recognise roles formed within childhood. A parent and adult child may begin to understand an old dynamic differently. A couple may discover that a recurring conflict is touching something much older in each of them.
The purpose is not to decide who is right. It is to become more conscious of what is actually happening.
No two retreats follow the same path because no two people arrive carrying the same story.

Afternoon
Integration and Regulation
Insight can be powerful, but deeper work also needs time to settle. Each afternoon includes a 90-minute Yoga Nidra and nervous system regulation session.
Rather than continually pushing for another breakthrough, the pace deliberately changes. Attention returns to breathing, sensation, rest and the body's ability to move towards a more regulated state.
This creates space for what has emerged during the day to be experienced and integrated rather than simply analysed.
Over the three days, participants may also begin to recognise their own patterns of activation, withdrawal, tension or protection more clearly. That awareness can become part of the work itself.

Evening
A Different Kind of Experience
Each evening concludes with a curated experience selected to complement the retreat.
These experiences are not simply additions to the programme. After a day of exploration, they create another way of being with yourself: receiving rather than analysing, experiencing rather than explaining.
Depending on availability and what feels appropriate, this may include
- Sound Healing
- Reiki
- Therapeutic Massage
- Meditation
- Breathwork
- Fire Circle
- Other experiences available at Samyama

Final Evening
Water Ceremony
The final evening includes a Water Ceremony. This creates a symbolic moment to acknowledge what has been explored, what may be ready to be released and what you wish to carry forward.
It is not intended to suggest that three days completes the work. Rather, it marks the end of a particular journey and the beginning of whatever comes next.
